Marks · One Hundred Marks, One Line

26.0s · 1920×1080 · 30fps · one take

One ink line that never lifts off the page runs through 100 marks from Marks, my book of 398 logo identities. It closes into each outline and flows into the next, faster and faster, then settles on the JQ mark.

An original score composed in code: a pencil on paper, one piano note for each mark and soft pads. No spoken dialogue. On-screen text carries the story.

The study

Show the range of twelve years of logo design in one breath: a hundred different identities drawn by a single unbroken line, ending on the book where all of them can be seen properly.

process notes

01

Traced, not redrawn

Each mark's public image from the Marks page is thresholded, its symbol kept and its outer edge traced into one contour: a silhouette of the mark, not its detailed drawing.

02

One line, a hundred shapes

Every outline is resampled to the same 400 points and rolled so it starts where the last one did, so one SVG path can morph through all of them without twisting.

03

Sound follows the pen

The pencil's scratch follows the line's speed and each mark it lands on gets one piano note, generated in Python from the same timings as the picture.
