Motion · Intro

10.0s · 1920×1080 · 30fps · one take

The intro film for this site's Motion page. Frozen frames of a kingfisher slide past on a filmstrip, the strip spins up to 24 fps until the frames are the moving loop, the camera pulls back through the page as each card unfreezes, and the last card is one tile of a wall where every loop plays.

An original score composed in code. No spoken dialogue. On-screen text carries the story.

The study

Open a page of moving images by showing what motion is: still frames, run fast enough, become movement. The page's own loops are the material.

process notes

01

Frames become motion

Twelve real frames of The Dive ride a filmstrip that turns towards the camera and spins up; the HUD counts the frame rate to 24, a flash, and the loop itself takes over with a focus pull.

02

The page unfreezes

The camera pulls back through the Motion page's own two-column grid. Each card starts paused and switches to playing as the camera reaches it.

03

One video for the wall

Every loop is pre-composited into a single wall video with FFmpeg, so the final pull-back plays them all in sync from one decode. The score is composed in code and follows the frame rate as it climbs.
